Our faux leather is made from polyurethane, (which is basically what all faux leather is made from) with a natural-looking, slightly distressed texture. It feels nice to the touch and is easy to wear.
We recommend that you treat your Sash with a product that will protect it from stains and moisture if your lifestyle or climate calls for it. You don't absolutely HAVE to treat your bag (and a lot of us never have). We offer it as a recommendation because normal "wear and tear" isn't covered under our warranty and our customers want to know the best way to care for their Sash to keep it looking good!
Different people use their bag in different ways and there is a wide variety of climates and environments, so you'll have to decide what makes sense for you. Wearing a Sash bag is a different experience than carrying a traditional purse. A Sash Bag is something you wear more like a garment and will withstand more wear and tear than a traditional purse. It is likely be exposed to elements such as sun and rain more frequently and for more prolonged periods of time.
That means you'll want to take particular care with your new Sash Bag. While we use faux leather that is durable and easy to keep clean, exposure to the elements and activity level will have an impact on the material over time.
We recommend spot cleaning as needed with cold water and a mild liquid soap. DO NOT use an abrasive cloth or sponge as it will damage the faux leather finish. Leather Honey Cleaner works well on our faux leather bags. Please be sure to test on the underside of your strap before cleaning other parts of your bag.
